Big changes...

So, in light of some recent decisions, I've decided to revive the blog. 6 months ago, my husband was laid off. After much talking and deliberation, we have decided to move our family across the country to rural NW Arkansas.
When I tell people this, I get a thoughtful, sidelong glance as they try to gauge my seriousness. Then the eyes get even squintier when I mention our main goal for this decision, which is to pursue our lifelong dream of living on an organic farm.
We have long desired a reconnection to our food sources, a true knowing that what we feed our family is pure and grown with heart, sweat, and love. We mean to teach our children life lessons involving nutrition, family, commitment to the community and spreading of knowledge, and the feeling of a hard day's work. We want our children to grow to be self sufficient, with survival skills that go beyond hoofing it to WalMart to buy boxes of packaged processed food.
After years of struggling and working to obtain this ideal in Montana, we decided now is the time. Moving day is in just over 2 weeks. There is a whirlwind of bittersweet emotions swirling in my head as I say good bye to my hometown that raised me, and learn to embrace the culture that raised my husband, and in time, our children. In the mean time, there is plenty of packing and planning to do, not to mention the end of school festivities and an 8th birthday party to plan for daughter #2.
